Creating schedules allows you to configure when each class meets so that you can easily pull and print student, teacher and room schedules. Additionally, the schedules interface with attendance, so when teachers log in to take attendance, they'll only see the classes that meet that day, in the order they meet.

To start creating schedules, navigate to SIS > Courses > then click Scheduling on left the navigation pane.

Step 1: Create Class Periods

Class period determine the structure of the school day: the start and end time of each class, the breaks, the number of periods, etc.
For example, period 1 might begin at 8:30am and end at 9:25am. This block is called a class period.

  1. To begin, navigate to SIS > Courses > Scheduling, and click the Class Periods tab.
Please Note: when editing or creating a schedule for multiple divisions, check that you have selected the correct division to make the changes to by using the dropdown on the top left.
  2. Click on '+ Add Period'
  3. Enter the Period Identifier such as Period 1 or Lunch
  4. Enter the Bell Schedule Title. This is the title of this period on printed bell schedules. You can leave this blank to use the Period Identifier as the title.
  5. Enter the start and end time of the period.
  6. Checking off 'Scheduling Period' will enable you to assign a course at that time. So this should be toggled to off for Lunch and Breaks/Recess and on for periods during which classes will meet.
  7. Save the class period and repeat for each period of the day.

Step 2: Create a Bell Schedule

Now that we've created the periods, we need to tell the system which types of school day these periods are relevant for. This is what a bell schedule is for. For example, you can create a "Regular School Day" bell schedule that uses Periods 1-9 (which you created above), and you can create a second bell schedule called "Early Dismissal Day" which only has periods 1-5, for example. In step 3, we'll use the session calendar to tell the system which bell schedule is relevant for what dates on the calendar.

  1. Click on 'Bell Schedules' tab on top
  2. Click on '+ New Bell Schedule'
  3. Enter the name of the bell schedule to identify it, such as "Regular School Day"
  4. Select the days of the week this schedule can be relevant for
  5. From the Periods dropdown select the class periods you created to assign to the schedule
  6. Select the settings you would like to use for the printed schedules
    1. You should indicate "Listed" on if you would like the schedule to be printable.
  7. Click Save

Step 3: Link the Schedule to Students and Teachers

Next, you will need to link the schedule to the students and teachers this schedule is relevant to. This allows you to have different bell schedules for different grades - just "link" the relevant bell schedule to the relevant students. If you have one bell schedule for the whole school, you will see need to link the schedule to all students and teachers.

  1. Click on the 3 dots next to the edit button of the bell schedule.
  2. Select Link to Students and choose the students to assign this schedule to.
  3. Select Link to Staff and choose the staff members to assign this schedule to.

Step 4: Assign Bell Schedules to Session Calendar

Next, you'll tell the system which bell schedule to use on what calendar day. For example, if September 21st is early dismissal, you'll assign the "Early Dismissal" schedule to that date, and all other dates will be assigned the "Regular School Day" bell schedule. If there are no sessions that day, don't assign any bell schedule to that date. Learn more about assigning bell schedules to the session calendar here.

Step 5: Schedule Classes

Now that are schedules are set up, we can schedule classes and assign meeting times to classes. Click here to learn more about that process.
